Sainsbury’s in Bannister Way, Haywards Heath was evacuated

A SUPERMARKET was evacuated after a “suspicious item” was found in its car park.

Sainsbury’s in Bannister Way, Haywards Heath was evacuated this afternoon after the item was found.

A Sainsbury’s spokesman confirmed that an unattended package was found in the store’s car park.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “Police were called at 2.45pm to a report of a suspicious item at Sainsbury’s in Bannister Way, Haywards Heath.

“The store and car park have been evacuated.

“An Explosive Ordnance Disposal team has been called and is on its way to investigate.”

Police have now declared the area safe.
