Murder probe is launched after body found in park

POLICE forensic team searched a children’s play park yesterday after a man was stabbed to death in broad daylight.

The man, believed to be in his 60s, was attacked and killed in a public pathway next to an adventure playground in Crawley.

Sussex police appealed for witnesses after the man was discovered fighting for life yesterday morning.

The man is believed to have been discovered on a public footpath next to the Cherry Lane Adventure Playground.

A Crawley Borough Council van was parked next to the scene.

A spokesman for the council said they did believe any of their employees were involved.

The council’s website states the play area is open between 3pm and 7.30pm during term time.

Sussex Police said the man died from his injuries soon after 10.30am.

Paramedics battled in vain to save his life.

A massive police cordon surrounded the area of the park and adjoining streets.

Search teams and police were still at the scene hours after the man was found.

A 22-year-old man from Crawley was arrested nearby on suspicion of murder.

A spokesman for Sussex police said: “The victim was treated by paramedics for serious injuries, but was sadly later pronounced dead.

“The scene is currently cordoned off while forensics are carried out, and police are appealing for witnesses.
